HP and Palm?
$1.2B for Palm?
I’m confused by it. Here’s why:
Does HP need a SmartPhone play to extend their platform? Make a larger dent in the Unified Communications segment perhaps?
While everyone knows about Palm’s ability to innovate, their ability to sell has been the problem.
Lastly, my rule: 2 or 3, max 5 (see an earlier post). To me, that’s Apple & Rim with HTC and...

What I ♥ about using Tumblr
I’ve been using it for about one year now. I bounced around on lots of different products. I can’t say my traffic is up but I don’t really care. I like sharing what I like and from time to time, some people share what I’ve posted.
Re-blogging rocks. I’m not that creative. Now, I seem to find more content to check out and re-blog than I post.
You should never...

Test Your Email Phishing/Scam IQ With This Quiz →
As a rule, most folks delete bland, non-transaction acknowledgement oriented emails but this phishing/virus/scam test was very good. One important note: A “No Answer” is wrong and should be.
(This is a great one to send to your non-computer literate loved ones and friends.)

Does the iPad Have Enough Corporate Testosterone?
While I was in Phoenix, Randy Eckel of Marker Advisors showed me his iPad running the Citrix Receiver for iPad. Randy runs a hedge fund advisory covering IT: VDI (virtual desktop integration) and security. In a stunning testosterone-driven demo (heaven forbid the two words Apple and testosterone appear in the same sentence) the application flawlessly accessed his desktop server running...

I Need Simplicity. I Need UBER-Portal
The other day, I lamented over having to access too many systems. As a consultant, I don’t have much control over which and how many. Let’s just say that I access everything from PBWiki to some crusty old forums. This weekend, I added one new email address and another information source – Microsoft Groove. I don’t trust password vaults because I’m not sure who is going to be in...

The Perfect Gift for Babbling Speakers
Here’s a great little gift for your friend who seems to babble on a bit or perhaps for the professiorial types.
I don’t highlight physical products that often but after reading a short TechCrunch interview of Adam Hocherman, the founder of American Innovative Products about sourcing in China, I checked out their site and came across this. This is their Roadshow Travel Alarm.

I loved building things with Hypercard back in the day (see old post here). It would be fantastic to see someone create the modern day version of it.

Boring and Small Startups Are Ok Too
This weekend, I had a lengthy discussion with a friend about their startup and the difficulty he was having getting angel funding. He had presented their thesis and a small demo to four different angels. The fourth angel might invest – not would, might. Angels typically look for the essence of an idea and a brief demonstration of it. They also look for something with legs. Long ones.
First,...

Pacing Your Startup
Don’t you love it when someone can nut a concept in ten slides with bullets? (Startups should be so easy…) Dayna Grayson from North Bridge Venture Partners (Boston) presented Pacing Your Startup to the current Techstars class this week.
North Bridge is an early stage investor, from everything I hear, they’re a great ally and investor. If you’re a startup and you...
