Naming products and campaigns is challenging. Here’s the latest example of a huge naming gaff: Microsoft Hohm. Hohm can be added to a rich and diverse set of bad names and campaigns – like Chevrolet Nova, which, in Spanish means “No Go”, “Nads” hair removal strips for men, “Say Wa” ad campaign for Washington State, “666 Cold Preparation”, “ScarZone” scar elimination cream.
Phonetically, Hohm sounds like your neighbors when they clear their throats after leaving your lights on all night - or perhaps you might “huh hum” due to the boredom of yet another green idea: “Ho Hum”.”
Perhaps what strikes me most is the traffic that the Hoh Hung Ming “Enterpristes” (http://hohm.com) is going to get! Good luck, I hear it is a great product. perhaps that can transcend the name!
